USD lacks depth. There big 3 are formidable but Wright's injury hurt them and foul trouble will hurt them. If BYU is shoots poorly from 3, they struggle. Childs is great but if Haws and Emery aren't on their game, they are vulnerable. They are very tough at home but might struggle against the Lions in a grind it out game. There is certainly precedent for that.

I didn’t know Wright had missed the Santa Clara game. That explains a lot because you’re right, there isn’t a lot on their roster after the Big Three.
BYU is a mess. A couple years ago, I was projecting that by now the Cougars would be competitive with the Zags. Boy, was I wrong! The change in LDS mission rules, defections to the pros, transfers, and the whole Emery fiasco have all taken a major toll on their program. Pump - there is precedent to the Lions upsetting the high-powered Cougars. I just wouldn’t bet any money on it happening.

SMC and Pepperdine picked ups some great recruits over the last month. Majok Deng- a 2019 SG from Arizona committed to the Waves. He had a lot of interest including offers from PAC 12, BIG 10 and ACC schools. www.verbalcommits.com/players/majok-deng-azWith the Ross, Deng, the Edwards brothers, and the two Oregon transfers Waves are going to be loaded next season. Judah Brown- a 2020 SF committed to the Gaels last night. He held a lot of offers and his stock should rise in the next two years. www.verbalcommits.com/players/judah-brown

They already are a handful now that the elder Edwards is back.

I think Coach Rose under appreciated him. He added a dimension to their game that no other guard there has

Rose under appreciated Payton Dastrup, a four or five star talent out of high school, the previous season and lost him to Oregon. BYU has turned out to be a big underachiever in Men's Basketball since joining the WCC. Too bad. I predict Grand Canyon will have a brighter future than BYU.

Hardnett still on the team. News of his departure was premature. Sounds like he took a break but decided to stick it out.

Apparently Pepperdine has been thinking about a new basketball “arena” for some time. The rumor on the Waves board says that a new arena was a condition Romario insisted on to come to Pepperdine. On a separate note, I watched the Zags-Tigers game last night and I was mildly surprised how easy it was for Gonzaga to dominate Pacific. The Zags started slow but used a tenacious full court press for the whole first half to get in their rhythm. Tille was back but a bit rusty and a guard named Crandal also returned from some injury - you’ll hear a lot more about him. The Zags prevented any scoring in the paint, forcing the Tigers to shoot from the perimeter. Expect more of that when the Lions face them.

Romar is charismatic and can recruit and will energize the fan base ... it won’t be long before they break ground on area. I have also heard some rumors of Gersten being remodeled- definitely long over due.

Pepperdine had a re-build of Firestone Fieldhouse on the docket a few years ago, but plans were put on ice. It seems that Romer’s addition has served as an impetus to revisit those old plans. The Waves need something. Their current facility is pretty bad.
I’d love to see something done to/with Gersten, but it’s hard to justify with the morbid attendance being generated these days. I don’t know who to blame more - the crummy teams and schedules that CMD generates or the lackadaisical approach from the administration, but big time changes are needed on all fronts.

San Francisco really put a scare into Gonzaga and things got chippy. That might’ve been Gonzaga’s hardest game of the conference season.

USF rose dramatically in my eyes last evening with their competitive play- the game was a lot closer than the final score indicates. On the other hand, the Lions’ game wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. The Waves also played very well last night against a USD team that lacks depth.
