This how our roster looks for next year : Corey Counts G 165 5'10 Max Craig C 260 7'0 Shawn Deadwiler G 175 6'3 Marko Deric F 230 6'9 Tim Diedrichs F 220 6'9 Isaiah Jenkins G 180 6'2 Orlando Johnson F 205 6'5 Mason Maynard F 220 6'9 Terron Sutton F 230 6'9 Brad Sweezy F 195 6'6 Quentin Turner G 6'1 Brandon Walker G 185 6'3 Jon Ziri G 200 6'2
We are going to have a really young team. It will be interesting to see the various line up experimental starting line ups at the beginning of the season. I hope to get to see some of the incoming freshman play during the summer. I think we could have up to 3 freshman in the starting line up.
I think it’s a good year to have a young roster. The WCC will be really up and down with so many new coaches and new players.
Go Lions.

This is also the start of a truly Tention built roster. I'm really excited to see how his players work with his system. We've got a lot of young faces but also some kids who should be used to his game by now.
I agree with the rest of the WCC rebuilding this is a good time to bring on all these freshmen.

Chris Kanne and Joel Meyers are the walkons. Not sure how much production we'll get from Meyers who was RS last season or Kanne who I don't think had any FGs.

I'm going to start this out early.
Prediction of starting Line UP for 2007-2008 and roles. I got a sneak peak and these are my initial thoughts. This may change based on how each player performs through summer workouts (Weights, Practice Time and Dedication to it) much different than HS.
PG - Quentin Turner G 6'1 (TRUE Poing Guard) SG/Combo - Shawn Deadwiler G 185 6'4 (Knee I hear is at 90%, Gained some weight and grew an inch) SG/Wing - Orlando Johnson F 205 6'5 (A strong player always trying to get to the basket) PF - Tim Diedrichs 220 6'9 (Will beat out Maynard, Sutton and Craig for a starting spot) Center - Marko Deric F 230 6'9
Six Man - Jon Ziri (Has had 4 Years to get it done) going young this year
Bench:
Corey Counts G 165 5'10 - good backup Max Craig C 260 7'0 - Needs to work still Isaiah Jenkins G 180 6'2 - Needs a year of grooming Mason Maynard F 220 6'9 - Great backup Terron Sutton F 230 6'9 - Great backup Brad Sweezy F 195 6'6 - Too early to tell Brandon Walker G 185 6'3 - Will play this year

I will agree with a few of aacoach's picks for the starting line up. However, there is a couple I disagree with [one (SG/Combo) is STRONGLY DISAGREE with].
PG - Quentin Turner - If he doesn't start then it was a wasted effort to recruit the junior college transfer
SG/Combo - Jon Ziri [aacoach pick of Deadwiler is absolutely rediculous. Did aacoach not see him last year when he played? Deadwiler played in 19 games and averaged 9.7 minutes (2nd most per game average among LMU freshman) and shot a whopping 20.4% from the field. He nearly got a shot blocked every game he was in. Deadwiler had the most jokes made about the aforementioned during the post season banquet than anyone else. Rodney game him plenty of chances last season. He did not impress. I realize that he was playing injured, but remember he was not injuried enough not to play. If he is that good, he would have sucked it up and put up better numbers. Do not get me wrong, I am a fan of his but there is no way that Deadwiler should be starting. I am glad to hear the knee is almost back and he has put on some weight. However, it is really early on and that weight may just "fall off" when they get to midnight madness after all the drills.]
SG/Wing - Orlando Johnson; Will be the only O.J. in this town. O.J. Mayo who? Orlando will make a name for himself and will be a catalyst in bring LMU to the NCAAs within 2-3 years
PF - Open for debate. I will have to see how Tim Diedrichs performs, but Mason Maynard will probably get the call. I think Mas looked strong in some stretches last season and the coaches are high on him. However, I would not count out Terron Sutton. Does anyone know if Terron lost 10lbs. as he was required to do so by the coaching staff? Sutton could do some major damage this year for opposing teams if he is given a chance.
Center - Marko Deric - obviously not a "true center" but the best thing we have to one. Marko will have to develop a new skill set. He will have to use his speed to beat the larger centers in the conference. Marko likes the outside shot, but will have to learn to bang it out down low. Marko is foul trouble prone and it does not bold well when facing bigger, stronger, taller centers within the WCC. The team will need to rely on him for atleast 10 points a game. If not, we don't have a chance in most games. Let's face it....we need a true center. If only Max could get the footwork down.
Six Man - Tim Diedrich /Terron Sutton/Brandon Walker.
Bench:
Corey Counts G 165 5'10 - great backup and will play a bigger role than prior years Max Craig C 260 7'0 - will receive increased playing time if his footwork improves Isaiah Jenkins G 180 6'2 - Will play and NEED to play to bring the Westchester faithful into Gersten Pavillion
It is imperative if these new freshman decide not to "redshirt" that Rodney gives them adequate time to develop. This is a rebuilding year. These new players will need time to gain confidence at this level.
Go Lions!

Wait and see, Wait and see, Wait and see.... I know basketball. Deadwiler did not have half the chance, he could not play on a bad wheel, sorry but your expectations were to high for him last year and I don't think the coaching staff after 8 games thought they were going to get a lot out of him but tried.
Should not use stats because everyone had bad stats including DAMO.....
If you are being JOKED about thats a good thing, when your not talked about it could mean you are forgotten.
You say Ziri, he's a fan favorite and should be after 4 years of College but his numbers were not great for a Senior, this year is his fifth year.
17.5 min .358 FG .222 3pt
Not very good for a kid in the program for 4 years. Deadwiler in his first was hurt and lost his confidence and shot 20.4 FG, thats not bad.
I don't think I'm playing a 5th year Senior over a youth movement this year unless that guy is going to WIN a ballgame for me, LIKE B. Worthy, Matt Knight, Hank or the BO. I'm really not playing a non scoli player over a scoli player unless the injury bug hits again. Maynard, off the bench. Tim Starting..
Thats how I see it. When it happens I hope I see you on here supporting.

AAcoach...You do a great job supporting Deadwiler. I'm really looking forward to/ and hoping his contributions to the Lions improve this year. There are a lot of players in the incoming class that will be looking to take his mintues.
Go Lions!

No I support all the LIONS and mostly the new recruit Orlando.
What I can't stand is cheap shots at a player. Put your thoughts down but don't take shots at players we all want to suceed.
When someone is injured and down on the ground I would hope we would all stop kicking him.
Every since I first posted on this board and said something with respect to deawiler, everyone started kicking, OUCH!!!
I do think he's a good shooter and slasher but I think Orlando will get to the rack and get to the line a great replacement for B. Worthy that got it done.
I like the new recruit Tim but I love the TEAM and the TEAM concept.
I didn't get see deadwiler in HS but what I hear and what I've read, he played through pain and got it done. This was from other colleges that recruited him.
The new PG from what I read got it done and I got a glimpse at him and he was really good. Last year the LMU staff was high on deadwiler at the beginning of the year, look at his bio then he got hurt and we are still kicking him. I like his character, he takes the kick and keeps on playing thats courage and guts and he's getting a free 1st class education.
This year, I would have to say the "O" will lead the team with Marko giving some leadership on the floor as a big. A transition year but the team will be more athletic than in the past. I like Rods recruits.

I am a LIONS fan! A true LIONS fan wants the team to succeed and put their best team on the floor to win. Deadwiler will play a role, but not a starting role on this year's team. Like I said, I am a Deadwiler fan, but foremost a LIONS fan. Deadwiler is not the best player to start at that position (an absolute fact). Deadwiler had opportunities early in the season, but faltered. AA Coach, I wish I could be 100% wrong with this and find out that Deadwiler is the next coming as that would only propel the LIONS. However, I don't think that is going to happen (being simply realistic) and I strongly think that other players (like Ziri) can assist the team in a more consistent and productive fashion.
AA Coach seems to be stating that LionsPride is putting down players, but it seems as if AA Coach is doing the same with the Ziri comments. Also, are you questioning the LIONS coaching staff for putting a guy out on the court with a "bad wheel"? I think the "bad wheel" is an excuse that Deadwiler has been using his last 3 years. He seems to never ask the coaches not to play him because of the injury. But when he has a bad game (which is often) he complains that he is getting over the injury and possesses a "just you wait and see" attitude (just like AA Coach started out his reply....very interesting isn't it?). In all the years, I don't know a player who was seriously injured and the injury was consistently affecting his performance did not sit out to get at least 80% healed. Instead AA Coach implies that the coach staff was putting a 50%-60% healed player out there and setting him up for failure. I don't think that this is the case.
When AA Coach stated "Every since I first posted on this board and said something with respect to deadwiler, everyone started kicking, OUCH!!!", I think AA Coach may want to take other people's view in consideration on a going forward basis. I think AA Coach may be the only one out there thinking Deadwiler can start this year.
Similar to ironlions, I hope and wish that Deadwiler will be able to contribute more. I don't wish bad on any LION. I simply disagree that Deadwiler will be contributing in a starting role.
AA Coach, we may have to agree to disagree. Or let's solicit others on this exact topic of Deadwiler being a starter. (I think you are out of your mind on this one)

Whoa, hold on a minute. AA Coach does not question a coaching staff. Deawiler made a decision to play i'm sure. I've heard nothing to say otherwise. Now as fo deadwiler complaining for 3 years where is this coming from where is this info from, deawiler has only been there for 1 year.
I'm out of this conversation too negative for me. I'M A LION FAN not anything else. You brought STATs into it so you got a response to stats that why I suggested to leave that out. Now you bring doubt of the coaching staff by me WOW. I hope you have some insight because I don't.
Over and Out I cannot agree to disagree with such statements you've made in your post.
Have a great day.

AA Coach....it is not a negative response...you put out there for us to respond to your projections on the starting line up and I strongly disagree at one position. I have a right to stat my opinion and being a LIONS fan I want the best players out there to start a game. Deadwiler will contribute, but not in a starting role.
AA Coach...if the kitchen's getting too hot, well heal up 100% and come with your best stuff.
Just to clarify...3 years (LMU Freshman year and Jr./Sr. of high school...plagued with "bad wheels") - consistent with your facts stated on your post ("I didn't get see deadwiler in HS but what I hear and what I've read, he played through pain and got it done.")

Yup too hot for me becuase it's too negative and I don't know the kids HS background besides what I've read.
He won a State title and according to his BIO he was hurt in his face and his hand but nothing to do with his wheels so I have to disagree.
Yeah the kitchen is hot. I did put my predictions out there but I think you started STATs so I responded with a a comparison in stats and if I was rebuilding how I would go about it with my predictions.
Have a good one, over and out.
Yes I like Deadwiler's game.
BIO FROM LMU SITE (I WOULD ASSUME THE COACHES WROTE IT) IT DISCUSSES the kid...
"Briefly: Shawn Deadwiler II is in his first collegiate season with the Lions in 2006-07 after finishing a stellar career at South Mountain High School in Arizona. He will be in the Lions' guard rotation and has the opportunity to be an inpact player for the Lions in his first season of collegiate basketball. He could be come a very good offensive player for the Lions and turned heads in fall training.
High School: Deadwiler is an all-state selection who lead South Mountain High School in Phoenix, Ariz., to its first state championship since 1992. As a 6-3, 175-pound combo-guard, Deadwiler led South Mountain with 21 points, five rebounds and six assists per game. He was an ArizonaVarsity.com First-Team All-State selection and an Arizona Republic Honorable Mention All-State selection. He was the top scorer for South Mountain's run to the state title in 5A Division-II competition. He helped the team to a 29-4 record as the team averaged 81 points per game, tops in the state of Arizona. He led all scorers with 19 points in the state championship win over Deer Valley, 75-54. Showing his versatility, Deadwiler, while playing in this spring's Las Vegas Easter Classic, suffered a sprain in his left shooting wrist. He switched hands and shot the ball with his right hand, scoring better than 27 points in the tournament. He graduated in May of 2006 with a 3.45 GPA from South Mountain. He attended and played at Chandler High School for three seasons, earning all-league his sophomore and junior seasons."
