Wake Forest is a member of the strong ACC and has good size on their roster plus capable guards.
Four players scored double figures in the Deacons win over Lasalle in their first game of the Jamiaca Classic: Appleby 23, Monsanto 14, Keller 11 and Carr 10. Monsanto drained 4 3-point shots. The Deacon’s bench outscored the Lasalle Explorers by a 20-point margin (36-16) and their big men outscored the explorers in the paint 40-16.

Bart Torvik ranks Wake Forest at 70, which is around where BYU and San Fran rank. Glad we are getting at least a chance against a quality opponent, which should prepare us for conference play.

These last two games are making me wish we had a couple of exhibition games to kick off the season before we took on UCI/UCR.

Undefeated Wake came into this game fully expecting an easy win. They are shook now and we’ll see if the Lions can keep them on the run.

This is the exact spot in the game where Stan needs improvement. Chaotic substitutions and no specific set plays to re-energize or refocus his guys. So far they were surviving after a great first half. To be honest, from the TV shots, he looks a little lost. I think Stan feels strongly about Plan A, but doesn’t have a lot of Plan Bs. I’m wondering if this is where a better assistant coaching staff would help.
