The Loyolan article also includes a note (below the coaching story) saying students held a 12-hour protest outside Gersten because the Lions were not included in the NCAA Big Dance! I wonder who their audience was? Legit almost pissed myself laughing while reading this. Cant be real, RIGHT? Probably as real as 4th place Stan being offered by Cal

So basically we are going after guys who played for tiny schools and put up numbers, as opposed to guys that are transferring from big time programs. Am i seeing that correctly?

I have to say Shelton (NAU) outperformed players from bigger programs.
There are examples both ways, I know.
I would like to think some of these may be players that CSJ was recruiting when they were in high school, just like he was recruiting Stevens and then when he decommitted from, I believe, Rhode Island, we were able to get him.

There are a lot of talented (especially) guards out there at the smaller programs. They might be undersized but they can play. Especially the more seasoned guys who have played a couple years. Now, getting a 6'9" skilled big man from the portal might be a bit harder.....Those guys are in BIG demand. When it comes to big men, you might have to get more a specialist (3 & D guy, rim protector like Rick, energy guy like Graham or maybe a guy who has the physical tools but needs development etc.).

Speaking of NAU, their top player (Jalen Cone) just hit the portal - LMU has apparently contacted him.

Almost TMI! But I do thank you for the updates. I guess not much firm will transpire until the Big Dance concludes. Can we sign anyone now? Or is it not the “signing” window? (I’m lazy tonite)

I just heard watching the Princeton game that there is “no extra year” in the Ivy’s. So Seniors are done and may be looking for another campus to use their “covid” year.

Hmmmmmm? Coaching Changes Twitter a short time ago: "I hear Stan Johnson to Cal is heating up and up and up". That would be pretty slimy to have Keli come back, promote LMU on local TV, then leave for Cal. But of course that’s what all the coaches do if the money talks. FDU coach was gone in two seconds to a bigger mid major even after being on national tv a day before. That’s the problem. The minute Stan gets LMU any notoriety, he’s going to be gone and it’s back to the bottom. I wonder if the SCU or USD route is better, hiring an older retread guy that is coming down to the WCC and is looking for a cozy position a la Herb Sendek and Jim Harrick. Who would that be for LMU? I always thought that might be Mike Montgomery but he’s been out of it for awhile. Looks like Pintens will need to figure it out unless he leaves for a higher AD job as well. Maybe this is more of a Tim Snyder issue?

*steve Lavin not Jim harrick
Also if Stan leaves before getting us to the dance that would be super lame on his part. Hold up your end of the deal before leaving Stan!

I always thought that might be Mike Montgomery but he’s been out of it for awhile. Looks like Pintens will need to figure it out unless he leaves for a higher AD job as well. Maybe this is more of a Tim Snyder issue? Um, Jim Harrick went from Pepperdine to UCLA in the 90's. Definitely a step UP for him. Herb was fired from ASU, so obviously he wasn't moving up immediately up the ladder after that. It's taken him 7+ years to build a budding program at SCU and it remains to be seen if he stays or goes in the coming seasons. Personally, we have to keep trying to find LMU's version of Mark Few, which is obviously very very difficult. If I were Pintens, I'd keep looking at young, hungrier coaches like CSJ. I think our only shot of ever having consistent NCAA tournament success is finding an unproven head coach (like CSJ) who finds success here, but because he falls in love with LMU and appreciates the risk we took to hire him, he'll stick with us for the long haul... Just like Mark Few at Gonzaga. While I selfishly don't want CSJ to leave for Cal, I wouldn't fault him. That's a big move up to a power conference that doesn't come around often. Undoubtedly, it would be a prosperous financial decision for him and his family. College basketball is a business, and we can't take things too personally. I fully acknowledge we'd be in a hole if he left, but even if he did leave, our program as a whole would be in a better state today than in early 2020. Lastly, I don't see Pintens leaving for a higher AD job anytime soon. ADs don't bounce around as often as head coaches do.
