Maybe I am in the minority here but I would rather watch us play 5 underclassmen and go 9-26 but compete and hopefully improve throughout the season than a bunch of seniors transfers go .500. I'd love to see Diop, McBride, Vide, and maybe one of our freshman all start. The problem with that is that there is absolutely no guarantee in this new era of college basketball that players you develop will be back the next year. In fact, the majority of time in years to come I will venture to guess that anyone worth his salt at lmu one year will most likely transfer the next. Lmu doesn’t have the nil collective to keep them here and they don’t win enough for the lack of making money to be overcome. May as well just play your best 5 and then do the same thing again the following year College Basketball has become AAU basketball. NCAA screwed up the NIL thing.

I don’t have a cite but I did see $75K mentioned as NIL “pay” for one player. NIL likely goes much higher in other cases. Is there any limit to the amount that can be paid? To me, it takes some interest out of college ball. Like allowing pros in the Olympics has spoiled that in my opinion.

To me, it takes some interest out of college ball. Like allowing pros in the Olympics has spoiled that in my opinion. Kids are getting six figures in NIL money from some schools. The big programs have large amounts of NIL available for players, while smaller programs hardly offer any. The NIL money has changed college basketball forever unless the NCAA makes some kind of guideline for schools and players. A kid will almost never stay at a school, when they think they can get more money at another school.

Nice point Vlad. Hard for a mid-major like us to build a program if your best players keep leaving for Power 5 schools that will pay them more (like Harris/UCLA). Kids used to transfer just for the bigger name school... but now we have to compete with bigger name schools who flash the NIL $$$ and with relaxed transfer rules...
This will forever keep us little guys down!

Myron Amey Jr from San Jose state just committed to lmu. Averaged 16 ppg including 30 vs Boise state. He was a big time get for us, beating out I believe cal and Creighton?

And now Pepperdine transfer and highly sought after transfer portal target, Jevon Porter, has committed to the Lions. Huge get. If we can stay healthy, we are going to be GOOD.

It has been an impressive month for the coaching staff getting 4 transfers and 2 of the high school guys previously committed to Pepperdine to follow Romar. From what I am seeing it appears Dom is going to commit to UCLA but I wonder if Stan can convince him to come back for another year.

Wow! They got Porter. The Lions took a gamble on Romar and they cashed in with these transfers. Time to place some bets on the Lions next year….

247 has us as 24th in their overall best transfer team rankings and the top ranking for the WCC. Still a lot of players in the portal that have not signed so the ranking will definitely change, but I think it shows that there is a talented group coming in next season. For context, our 2022 transfer team ranking was 66 and 2023 it was 65. 247sports.com/Season/2024-Basketball/TransferTeamRankings/

Markusson did a u-turn recently when he went in the portal and came back to LMU. Dom wants to be on a winner and get broad exposure of his talents. UCLA could provide that but he might still be a "little fish" in that big pond. It would be remarkable if he did come back and I'm sure we could clear a roster spot to accommodate him. Still I wouldn't count on his return. By the way, the Porter get is a really big deal! Way to go recruiters.

As much as I would love that to happen, I think he will do pretty great at UCLA and I think we will do a little better as well with a more balanced roster and same incompetent coaching.
