Alipev definitely fits the current basketball model. Thank you for posting.
I am very excited about the upcoming season. You cannot dismiss Haney’s graduation, but overall I don’t think there’s any doubt we are more skilled and athletic, Plus it is nice that all three are underclassmen and will have time to grow ...
Lose: Haney, Simmons, Causwell Add: Alipev, Douglas, Bell Herman is back Along with the seven guys who were playing at the end of the season, including the last game when we were beating Gonzaga in the middle of the second half.
I think Herman is the X factor. If he can pick up where he left off at the end of his junior season, along with the continued upward path of the other returning players, I think we can make a major push.
Definitely cautiously optimistic…

And maybe Markusson will grow another two inches this summer! In any case I expect him to further develop his inside game.

So when we were going through this, the Lions were still recruiting more than what the currently roster could hold. We assumed maybe two of the guards deep on the depth chart were on the outs. But now that LMU never landed any of those players and the school year about to start in 6 weeks, what happened? I guess there will be no new faces on the squad minus a walk on or two. I have been seeing in social media that they are doing summer work outs. I am guessing that recruiting for 2018 is over?
What a weird locker room. Dunlap attempted to recruit better players to replace guys that will be playing for him next year, but now has to come back to them ask them to give it all for the program? Also, it goes to show how Dunlap really failed miserably at recruiting. He worked to alienate guys and then didn't even replace them.

To comment on what SLB was saying... Players are aware that the roster is full, and players are also aware that there were scholarship offers still out. That being said, there are two ways this can go.
1. Players see this as a sign that they need to step up their game, and it serves as motivation and a wake up call. This happens at the professional level all the time, and it seems to work.
2. Players lose their trust in CMD and it creates an uncomfortable tension in the locker room.
I really would like to think that option 1 is the result of this, but because that doesn't seem to be common practice at the college level I am somewhat doubtful. Hopefully it isn't a big deal and everything is fine. The fact that we only lost two players to transfer, with neither of them being contributors (or D1 players to be honest), is a pretty big win for the program. Between not losing any key contributor, and getting a new AD, I would consider this off season a successful one.

My take is that those "scholarship offers outstanding" were moot as Dunlap knew the players were not coming to LMU. You offer the best players and when its clear they aren't coming, you move down the list. In any case, we have three new faces next season all freshmen who can contribute and perhaps start.

And when you recruit a player you know is going elsewhere, you set up lines of communication between that player and your program. Then if the player decides to transfer after a year or two, he is already familiar with your program and hopefully might consider joining it.

Jordan Bell and Batemon are both playing in the drew league, recently saw some video of each. Will try to find some better than what I saw to post but Jordan Bell looked like a pretty big body who is capable of making some plays. Markusson, Herman, and Bell could be a pretty solid three man rotation down low, Williams might get left out unless he improves his perimeter game. Because from what I have seen (although extremely limited), Bell looks like Williams would if he was 2-3 inches taller with a little more length.

Great that Bell gets to find a sync with Batemon this summer. Hope there are no injuries in that play. That trio would make a pretty good front line but I don't think Scott or Williams will take things lying down.

7/22/2018 - JUCO SF A.J. Bramah (6-7, 185, 2★) has received an offer from Loyola Marymount. verbalcommits.com/conferences/west-coastMaybe slb and lmu2015 are on to something with more offers being out there? Wonder if someone else decided to leave the men's program. There may be academic issues at play also (just speculation). Nice touch around the basket. He could help immediately and for the next three years. A sleeper.

Looks like both he and Douglas are "steals" and could have major impacts as freshman. Those two with continuous improvement from Markusson and maybe we can have a competitive season...

CMD needs to buck the trend of having a good looking first 1/3 of the season, a god awful middle third, and then an okay final third. Mark my words, we could start 10-0 next this up coming season and I will not be overly optimistic until we get through the first 10 games of the league (where we were 1-9 last year), something about the first go around in league play where we just get smacked...

Very exciting regarding Alipiev! Really looking forward to the season.
By the way, Mike Schmitz, who posted this tweet, was the international expert for ESPN on their NBA draft coverage last month. He was breaking down the video of Doncic all the way to players drafted late in the second round. He really knows his stuff and is extremely highly regarded. So this isn’t just some nobody raving about Alipiev.

Excellent news! Looking forward to Monday’s open practice and how Douglas, Bell and our new Bulgarian look as part of the improving team. Did we add a new assistant coach who is impacting things this year?

So this isn’t just some nobody raving about Alipiev. If your interested in more Mike Schmitz on Alipeiv you should read the tweet from KXLU PxP announcer Jesse Kass on July 30 which incorporated an ESPN piece attributed to Schmitz on Alipiev. I don't know how to cut and paste it here so I'll retype it. You can find in on Jesse's Twitter timeline: 1. Ivan Alipiev - Loyola Marymount - 6'8" - Shot-creator The 18-year old Alipiev shined as Bulgaria's best player in Sofia, creating offense for both himself and his teammates. He's a smooth ball handler who can operate at different speeds, pull up off the bounce or get into the lane for kickouts to open teammates. He's still a streaky shooter (30.1%), but Alipiev improved in that area since last summer and should have a big freshman season at Loyola Marymount, where he committed after spurning interest from high-level prep schools and high-major colleges. With average athleticism, Alipiev has to answer questions about his defense before he can be considered a sure NBA prospect, but he should be an instant-impact player in the West Coast Conference.
