I have spent this wonderful morning watching Portland vs UNC - Portland can flat out play, their guards handle the pressure extremely well, their ball movement is incredible, they play fast, and can flat out shoot. Portland found a gem in this coach, hopefully they can keep him.

Portland was close enough to win but North Carolina held them off At the close. The Tar Heels are having a bit of an off year but are still good. Impressive Portland team.

Sorry - I was repeating what I thought the announcers said I probably misheard

As the resident Tar Heel fan since 1992… I agree that they’re shaky right now. They had a remarkable year last year and they basically gave to repeat it all and finish the last half of the last game. Hard to do that. Plus they lost Brady Manek but the new guy Nance is who lifted them.
I had a feeling Portland would do well. UNC had trouble putting away Gardner Webb the other night. Well coached squad was going to keep them in it. I don’t think they’re #1… I’d go with Texas or Houston.

Portland is a good team, BYU is going through a rough patch, Saint Mary's lost to Washington, and USF lost their first game of the season vs Davidson - so bug for the WCC to get a good win today. Portland is just such a well coached team, great ball movement, shooting, all players are fundamentally sound, etc. Portland needs to do everything they can to keep this coach, if so this will be the next version of Saint Mary's and Randy Bennett, big win for the conference.

Portland just missed a last second layup (may have been fouled but no call) to beat Michigan State - ended up losing by 1. 2 losses for Portland this weekend that went down to the wire against UNC and Mich St., impressive weekend for the Pilots.

Portland has to be the best 5-4 team in the country. They can play with anyone and could win the WCC tournament. On a separate note, Gonzaga lost badly to Purdue and their 7’4” center Zach Edey who is the tallest player in Big 10 history and is a mobster to defend. He also shoots free throws. Today the #24 Boilermaker’s beat #8 Duke handily and may be the #1 team in the nation. Purdue has had only two head coaches in the last 43 years (per the announcers) which I find remarkable.

By the way, that 7-point possession by State on a flagrant foul call put the Spartans ahead of the Pilots and changed the game. The Pilots almost recovered anyway. Portland plays a physical game without apology.

Gonzaga survived a match with Xavier but are vulnerable this year. Very good but beatable.

Pepperdine has “postponed” several games due to “health and safety protocols.” Does anyone know what is happening in Malibu? Is it due to a COVID scare?

The conference is laying some eggs.
Gonzaga has 3 losses and has dropped toward the bottom of the Top 20. Tonight they only beat 6-3 Kent State by 7. The Zags are vulnerable.
Speaking of vulnerable, USF got blown out by Utah State. The Aggie’s are a good team but this was a blow out for a team that was looking to compete with the Zags and Gaels.
Portland lost to 2-8 North Dakota State. Really?!
BYU lost to 5-4 South Dakota.
These teams are showing real vulnerabilities. This is bad news for the conference but maybe good for the Lions’ conference chances?
